The Centre for Sea and Society aims to support researchers and teachers in their efforts to initiate, stimulate and develop transdisciplinary marine and maritime research and education. This is performed in many ways, for example by providing a communication platform and national and international networks, as well as organizing meetings such as research lunches, workshops, seminars, and Sea and Society talks.

In order to initiate and sustain transdisciplinary initiatives from researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sea and Society offers lunch seminars, leadership support and assistance by senior researchers and communicators to increase the quality of applications to funding agencies.

Financial support for transdisciplinary collaboration

Sea and Society offers also financial support for several kinds of activities:

  • Workshops
  • Seminars and conferences
  • Coordination of funding applications
  • International cooperation

Two or more faculties

As an employee at the University of Gothenburg, you can get support for transdisciplinary collaboration between researchers at two different faculties at University of Gothenburg or/and another university. For example, the collaboration may refer to the writing of a joint research application or publication.

For workshops, the maximum cost covered is 30 000 SEK, and for seminars and conferences, it is 50 000 SEK. For coordination of funding applications, the amount may be higher. If both faculties involved belong to the University of Gothenburg, you can receive a maximum of 100 000 SEK. If a candidate from the University of Gothenburg cooperates with a party from another faculty at another university, the grant may amount to a maximum of 50 000 SEK.

Application and decision procedure

Researchers may submit their applications continuously. Please find application instructions for each kind of the three activities below the relevant section and submit your application to info@havochsamhalle.gu.se

In order to be qualified for support, you must be a member of the Centre for Sea and Society register here.

Decisions on funding applications to arrange workshops, seminars, conferences and support for writing research proposals, as well as international collaboration, will be made by the director and the chair of the steering group. If the director and the chair of the steering group disagree, or if there is a conflict of interests, decisions will be made by the steering group. Anyone appointed to decide on funding by Sea and Society must recuse himself or herself from any discussion, vote or decision if they may be in a conflict of interest. The amount of funding will correspond to the degree of transdisciplinarity and relation to the scope of Sea and Society.

Send your application to info@havochsamhalle.gu.se
