Sea and Society talks is a lunch seminar series focusing on the UN sutainable development goals. The seminars link goal 14 "Life below water" with the other 16 goals. The idea is to give a short introduction to the topic and invite to discuss how researchers at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers can help in achieving a sustainable society.

October 12: Thomas Backhaus

Thomas Backhaus from the Department of biological and environmental sciences will give a Sea and Society Talks.

October 26: How can we use plastic pollution as a platform to discuss consumption patterns and sustainability?

These Karlsson from the Department of marine sciences will talk about this interesting topic combining sustainable development goal 14 and 12.

Prior Sea and Society Talks 2017

18 May: Marine protected areas and the sustainable development goals on life below water and economic growth: Decent work opportunities from sustained marine environments

Nomtha Hadi, guest teacher from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa will talk about marine protected areas and its importance for reaching sustainable economic growth.

11 May: Fisheries, regulations, and behavioral response

Lisa Björk at the Department of Economics will talk about the connection between SDG 14 and 12 focusing on fisheries, regualtions and behavioral response.

March 16: Food production and eutrophication

Eva-Lotta Sundblad, The Swedish Insitute for the Marine Environment, will give a talk connecting goal 14 and 12 focusing on "Food production and eutrophication".

March 2: Inequalities and the Sea

Per Knutsson, Global studies, will in his talk describe how urbanization produces inequality and injustice for small-scale fishermen i India connecting SDG 14 and 10.

February 2: Sustainable consumption and links to the ocean

Cecilia Soler from the department of business administration will talk about goal 14 (Life below water) and goal 12 (Sustainable consumption and production).
